International Education News & Happenings over on IHEC Blog's Facebook Page

Life post dissertation continues to be crazy and, dare I say, even more so.  In the month since I defended (I walk next Thursday, May 9th) I have received a couple of consulting offers, accepted a JSIE submission to review, been asked to facilite some online discussions in advance of a large upcoming international education conference, received an Press invitation to an upcoming international education event that will convene here in Chicago and have fielded vice requests to read my dissertation (Abstract available).

Spam or Legitimate Wall Post on IHEC Blog's Facebook Page?

From time to time I receive some Spammy wall posts over on IHEC Blog's Facebook page (and a bunch here on IHEC Blog but I moderate comments so it's not too problematic).  Last night someone posted to the following to IHEC Blog's Facebook page and I'm trying to determine if it is Spam.  I think it is and I think most of the 569 followers would agree.  However, the content relates to what I post in this new media space so part of me thinks to let it stay.  What are your thoughts?

Two Week Recap of "Study abroad related tweet of the day" Posts on IHEC Blog's Facebook Page

A short time ago I started a new "Study abroad related tweet of the day" over on IHEC Blog's Facebook page as a way to stimulate discussion around what people are posting to Twitter about study abroad.  I think people have liked it and it has generated some discussion which was my intent.  Following is a list of the first several:

Photographs of Doors

I was in Washington, D.C. all day Wednesday for a national scholarship final selection committee meeting as the snow fell.  Flights out of D.C. were cancelled and it was an adventure getting back in to downtown to find a hotel room which I was quite fortunate to do.  This provided me an entire day to roam the city yesterday and I chose to head to Georgetown to see the neighborhood and the University as I had never been before.  Washington, D.C. is a great city and one I have traveled to frequently over the past 5 years for international education related business.  By far, Georgetown is my favorite area/neighborhood.  I decided to walk off the beaten path through the neighborhood's side streets so I could really get a feel of area and take some pictures of the snowy neighborhood.  

I have always liked photographs of doors and doorways and have taken many myself over the years.  Embedded with this post are four of the best photographs of doors I took on my walk through Georgetown.  I asked on IHEC Blog's Facebook page for followers to post any photos they have taken of unique and interesting doors during their travels to my page.  A friend posted a great photograph she took of a door on her travels to Ankara, Turkey.

Just How International is IHEC Blog's Facebook Page Anyway?

Back in August of this year I posted "Just How International is IHEC Blog Anyway?" in response to someone(s) who tweeted on two different Twitter accounts "How International is a #HigherEd Consulting Blog @DavidComp if only available in US? [Kindle Edition] http://amzn.to/9R7Qwb".


I thought I would look at the Insights (metrics and other interesting data) for IHEC Blog's Facebook page to see who is visiting.  I started IHEC Blog's Facebook page back on October 19, 2009 and as of this post I currently have 444 page likes from people following along (formerly called fans).  Following is a list of countries (19) these "fans" come from and the languages they speak or at least spoken where they access Facebook (15) [listed in rank order with highest number on top].  I think this is pretty interesting as people from six of the seven continents are following along...there is still hope for Antarctica!
