A Big Citation of a Recent IHEC Blog Post

Hameed Khalid Darweesh was an Iraqi translator for U.S. forces who entered the U.S. on a valid visa and was detained at JFK for ~18 hours shortly after President Trump’s first immigration executive order was issued.

IHEC Blog will be reporting from IIE Generation Study Abroad Summit in Washington DC, Oct. 23-25, 2016

I'll be attending the upcoming IIE Generation Study Abroad Summit as a member of the media (for IHEC Blog) and not as being from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. I'll be blogging, tweeting and posting to Facebook before, during and after the Summit!  I'm hoping to secure some great interviews with key people associated with Generation Study Abroad as well as other prominent stakeholders in the field.  I also plan to try out Facebook Live so stay tuned to IHEC Blog's Facebook page!

This Summit will be my first official press credentials for an international education event...although I had quasi-press credentials for my blog when the Fulbright Scholarship Board held their quarterly meeting at the University of Chicago back in May 2013.

Will you be there? It would be great to connect!

I'm Presenting at and IHEC is an Official Sponsor of the 2016 International Educators of Illinois Conference, March 23-24, 2016

International Higher Education Consulting is an official sponsor of the 2016 International Educators of Illinois (IEI) Conference being held March 23-24, 2016. I was added as a late presenter to the panel talking about "The Power of Habit in International Education" and I'll be presenting with Sara McGuinn of Northwestern University (session Chair) and Derek Shouba of Morton College.

I will be attending the conference all day as well as the evening reception on Thursday, March 24th but won't be attending/presenting at a workshop on Wednesday, March 23rd as I will be giving a talk at Morton College that day to faculty and other key stakeholders on globalizing the curriculum and syllabus.  However, I do plan to attend the informal reception scheduled in the evening on Wednesday, March 23rd.  If you are attending the IEI conference I do hope our paths cross!

You can view the conference program below to view my presentation description (page 21) and sponsorship advertisement (page 11).

One of my Favorite Places for International Education Researching and Writing

Remembering one of my summer 2015 work stations on the shores of Lake Michigan in Door County, Wisconsin where I began work on my 'A Historical Overview of International Education Scholarship and the Role of the Scholar–Practitioner' chapter for the forthcoming book "International Higher Education's Scholar-Practitioners: Bridging Research and Practice".  Soon I'll begin work on a new book chapter that I will co-write with two other colleagues (unable to disclose chapter title or focus of book at this time) but I won't have as nice of an "office" this time around!

That IHEC Blog post on the computer screen is about and includes photos of my thirteen year old daughter heading off on her twelve day service learning trip to Ecuador last August!

International Education News & Happenings over on IHEC Blog's Facebook Page

Life post dissertation continues to be crazy and, dare I say, even more so.  In the month since I defended (I walk next Thursday, May 9th) I have received a couple of consulting offers, accepted a JSIE submission to review, been asked to facilite some online discussions in advance of a large upcoming international education conference, received an Press invitation to an upcoming international education event that will convene here in Chicago and have fielded vice requests to read my dissertation (Abstract available).

While I have continued to post weekly to IHEC Blog (copy and paste jobs of press releases and embedded videos and conference twitter #hashtag feeds) I spent more time over on Twitter and on IHEC Blog's Facebook page.  I find the opportunities to post and connect in these other spaces to be more economical for my time at the moment and I will continue to be more active in these spaces for the near future.  Following are some of the tings posted to IHEC Blog's Facebook page and if you are interested in coming along for the ride please feel free to do so at https://www.facebook.com/IHECblog:

Top 17 IHEC Blog Posts of 2012

Long time readers of IHEC Blog have noticed a variety of changes here over the years.  One noticeable change has been in the way I post.  Like many, my life is crazy busy.  I have a family of three young children, a full-time job, trying to finish my dissertation, on the editorial board of the Journal of Studies in International Education, I edit and publish IHEC Blog as well as manage several related internet properties, and occasionally I try to find some time to relax.  As a result, my blog posts have changed over the years and often times I only have enough time to embed a video that may be of interest to readers.  I also have significantly decreased the number of times I post to IHEC Blog (from a high of 282 posts in 2009 to 61 posts in 2012).  Despite all of this, IHEC Blog had a good year in terms of readership and when analyzing the various analytic tools and data available to me (and factoring out SPAM, bots and other non-interested visitors) it appears to be a worthy endeavor.

Following are the top 17 most visited IHEC Blog posts in 2012.

If you are interested you can link the top posts of 2011, 2010 and 2009 (didn't produce a list for 2008).  You'll notice some overlap between the years with popular posts.  Perhaps a Top 10 (or Top 23) all time most popular post compilation is due...but that won't happen until things slow down!

IHEC Blog will Return to Regular Programming Soon!

I've been out of the blogging game for a bit.  Work is crazy busy, I fit in a short family vacation, I'm trying to work on (and finish) my dissertation, work became even more crazy busy upon return from vacation and my full-time job as father (and husband) is always in constant motion and demands the most valuable time so posting to IHEC Blog was and remains on hold.

I'll be back soon...at least that is the plan!
