Call for Papers & Registration Open for Cuba TIES IV Conference in Cienfuegos, Cuba from October 21-27, 2018

Call for Papers and registration for Cuba TIES IV is now open!

An upcoming conference that caught my attention is the the Workshop of Strategic Alliances for the Internationalization of Higher Education, known as Cuba TIES.  Cuba TIES is a conference dedicated to promoting campus internationalization through study abroad, exchanges and other international collaborations within a Cuban context. Forged from a collaboration between the University of Cienfuegos and Civitas GES that began in 2014, Cuba TIES is the largest conference in Cuba dedicated to building partnerships in international education.

The call for papers for Cuba TIES IV closes June 20, 2018 and you can learn more here!

I really want to attend this conference but my fall work travels will most likely take me to Europe and my travel dates will overlap with the Cuba TIES IV conference dates.  Perhaps Cuba TIES V in 2019 will happen for me!?!?

Disclaimer:  I receive no compensation of any kind for posting about the Cuba TIES IV conference.

My son is 12 years old and in the 7th grade...he sent the following email message to his science teacher this afternoon!

Dear: Mr.xxxxxxx
Is there like a pamphlet for the Ecuador trip so that my parents can start looking at dates for the summer to see if it is possible for me to go.
Sincerely: Andres

Proud father!!!!

His science teacher (name X'd out for confidentiality) is one of the trip co-leaders for the middle school trip to Ecuador. My now 16 year old daughter went on this same trip in August 2015 just before the start of 8th grade and you can see two IHEC Blog posts about her trip here and here and she had the same science teacher and he also co-lead here trip to Ecuador!

My thoughts on Meaningful Travel, Family, and Working in the Field from my Interview with GoAbroad.com

A short time ago I was interviewed by GoAbroad.com about my thoughts on meaningful travel and working in the field and you can access the interview here.  I'm a huge fan of GoAbroad.com and the contributions they give to the field but also because of the type of company they are.  I was honored to be asked to answer their questions!

How accurate is Louis CK in talking about a school trip to Guatemala?

The part about the school trip to Guatemala begins at the 2:38 mark but the entire clip is worth watching!

Alliance Action Alert: Urge your Representative to sign letter to House appropriators in support of FY15 exchange funding!

The following is a copy and paste of an e-mail I received from the Alliance for International Educational & Cultural Exchange (posted with permission):

It’s appropriations season again and in this intense budget climate, it is more important than ever that we raise our voice in support of State Department exchange funding.

The Alliance is currently working with Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA)’s office to send a Congressional sign-on letter to House SFOPS appropriations subcommittee Chairwoman Granger and Ranking Member Lowey, asking for robust exchange program funding in FY 2015.

In a similar effort in 2012, we were able to obtain 52 Congressional signatures – our goal this year is to exceed that number!

And we need your help in gathering as many signatures for this letter as possible!

Please act today and send a letter to your Representative, urging him or her to sign Rep. Johnson’s letter in support of the highest possible funding level for State Department exchanges in FY 2015.

A pre-written letter is available here: http://capwiz.com/alliance-exchange/issues/alert/?alertid=63106071

You can send this letter as is, or better yet, strengthen its impact by personalizing it and demonstrating the local impact of exchanges in your home community. Please also call on your contacts – family, friends etc. – and ask them to write their Representatives as well.

You can learn more about the great work the Alliance for International Educational & Cultural Exchange is doing by visiting their website!
