The Coimbra Group and European Higher Education after Bologna 2010

A new position paper by the Coimbra Group Executive Board entitled The Coimbra Group and European Higher Education after Bologna 2010 embraces the Bologna Process but have identified several issues that they deem to be critical which need to be addressed in the coming years. A description of the Coimbra Group from their website follows:

“Founded in 1985 and formally constituted by Charter in 1987, the Coimbra Group is an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard. The Coimbra Group is committed to creating special academic and cultural ties in order to promote, for the benefit of its members, internationalisation, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society. It is also the purpose of the Group to influence European educational policy and to develop best practice through mutual exchange of experience.”[1]

Learning Accountability from Bologna: A Higher Education Policy Primer

In July, 2008, the Institute for Higher Education Policy issued an interesting report entitled Learning Accountability from Bologna: A Higher Education Policy Primer authored by Clifford Adelman. According to IHEP, the report “examines the reconstruction of those 46 European higher education systems—known as the “Bologna Process”—in terms of addressing challenges that lie at the core of current debates in the United States about documenting student learning.” You can access the report on their website linked above.
